Zarko Stanacev experienced years of mysterious, debilitating symptoms. He applied to the NIH's Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) and had his genome sequenced and interpreted by a team including Dr. William Gahl of the US National Institutes of Health. They discovered a mutation in the NLRP3 gene, which causes abnormal inflammation throughout the body. After just one treatment with a medication intended to reduce this inflammation, Zarko's symptoms improved.
