Three years ago, when E3D released the first products in their REVO ecosystem, I admit I was… a little disappointed. Back then, they only had two “cold sides,” their term for the heat sink, a low-power “hot side” or ceramic heater, and 4 sizes of brass nozzles. Not to mention that the throughput was pretty limited, especially in the age of ultra-high-speed printing.

But from the start, E3D has been very clear: this is the direction its product line is taking…

Since that initial launch 3 years ago, E3D has been hard at work releasing not just more cold faces, but a whole range of accessories – and not just nozzles. Quietly, without most people realizing it, Revo has become less of a hotend standard and more of a complete ecosystem of 3D printer heads… with E3D High flow, E3D Obxidian, the E3D Rotary Extruder, and more… and I think it's worth taking a look at this range of 3D printer upgrades, both to try to understand where E3D seems to be going as a 3D printing company, and to try to understand what the future might hold. In fact, on that note, even if you already know a little bit about the REVO ecosystem, stick around until the end, because I actually got my hands on one of their next-gen products, the E3D PZ probe, which is going to make one of the most popular upgrades on the market 100% obsolete.
