Hydrogen fuel cells are a fantastic way to produce electricity from energy-dense hydrogen, which can be produced using renewable energy. This means they are a great option for low carbon transport, especially as distances get longer! However, aviation has always been challenging. Fortunately, ZeroAvia has been working on an amazing new technology: high-temperature, turbocharged, air-cooled PEM fuel cells. These have much higher power densities and therefore enable hydrogen-electric flights over long distances. I went to their labs to check!
