Is too much technology in our classrooms detrimental to learning? Lifelong educator Mary Jo Madda cautions that technology tools should support the relationship between teachers and students, not replace it. Featured in Forbes' 30 Under 30, Mary Jo is a born educator, from her early days as an accredited middle school teacher during her years at Teach for America to her current work as a manager at Google at on the Code Next team, where she works to develop computer science education programs for students of color. In addition to her teaching time, Mary Jo has also served as director of EdSurge (an edtech news organization), a member of the MIT Media Lab's ScratchED team, and one of four founders in education and entrepreneurship at Harvard University Innovation Lab. She has spoken at SXSWedu, Stanford University, the University of Virginia, and will now be on our stage at TEDxChicago.
