Dr. Joseph Dituri set the world record for living underwater for 100 days. During these 100 days, he discovered things that science had not yet discovered, such as new single-celled organisms. In 2012, Dituri and James Cameron also miraculously discovered new marine life which, after a DNA sample, was found to be a partial cure for Alzheimer's disease. Listen to Dituri as he encourages looking where no one has ever looked before, like thousands of feet under the sea, to survive and protect the life we pass on to the next generation. Maybe we shouldn't spend billions of dollars exploring space, and maybe we should look to our seas instead. Commander Joseph Dituri enlisted in the United States Navy in 1985, where he participated in diving and special operations. After retiring after 28 years of active service, he served as president of the International Board of Undersea Medicine. Joseph is the author of numerous diver training manuals and co-author of the book “Tao of Survival Underwater”. Dituri has 11 personal awards earned during his time in the U.S. Navy, enjoys writing books, skydiving and has a long-term goal of becoming a civilian astronaut. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
