The relationship between philosophy and science is now linked to work in developmental biology. Scientific progress can help refine philosophical categories.
Plato's static view of forms and Aristotle's great chain of being must be revolutionized to account for the emergence of forms in the history of evolution. Mechanistic science succeeded in terms of instrumental knowledge, but left formal and final causes aside. Whitehead's view of evolution as an accumulation of facts in the past and a field of possible forms in the future was discussed, as well as the agency needed to explore this field of possibilities. The environment may be massively underdetermined, but the memory of patterns can be visualized and rewritten.

Finally, Levin posited that “evidence of humanity” must be linked to humans’ level of compassion, capacity, and existential struggles.
