What is health information exchange? Why is it important?

Health information exchange (HIE) is the ability to securely share health information electronically. In this video, CUNY SPH assistant professor Karmen S. Williams shares examples of how HIE can reduce duplicate testing and create comprehensive health records.

HIE is focused on patient-centric data centers that provide more informed patient care with real-time access to health records anytime, anywhere.

The benefits of health information exchange include reducing duplicate testing and coordinating care between different providers in different geographic areas.

Providers can access patient medical information electronically and securely share patient health information.

You'll learn about the future of health data in our MS in Population Health Informatics program.
