Responsibility and ownership are the foundations of business continuity and disaster recovery. For the process to be successful, there must be someone in charge. Additionally, a good business continuity and disaster recovery plan will require purpose, scope and authority. The objective helps define the intent of the policy and the scope defines which parts of an organization are covered by the policy. Authority gives those responsible for BC/DR the ability to actually get things done.

Once you have developed the BC/DR plan, you also perform a business impact analysis to understand the consequences of losing access to a given piece of technology. This analysis is informed by critical analysis so that we understand the risks, which helps inform our recovery goals.
