You probably know the weather, but do you know what it actually is, how it works, and why it changes depending on where you are in the world? In Weather for Kids, you'll learn that there are a number of factors that affect the weather outside. It's not just about whether it's hot or cold. Think about how you feel and what you experience outside of hot or cold, like humid or dry, clear or cloudy, calm or stormy. This video explains the causes of all these effects.

You can use a thermometer to determine whether it's hot or cold outside quite easily. Should we face a coat? Or is it time to swim and a swimsuit would be more appropriate? Temperature is just one factor that affects the weather. Have you ever heard of humidity? The amount of water vapor in the air determines the humidity level. Humidity refers to how humid or dry it is outside. Weather in a hot desert likely has very low, if any, humidity levels. However, in a tropical rainforest, even if it is hot, it can be very humid instead of dry.

Another factor is atmospheric pressure. What affects atmospheric pressure is the presence of clouds. Basically, places with high pressure will show clear skies. Low pressure areas have many clouds. To measure air pressure, you would need a barometer. Finally, there is the wind factor. Wind and wind speed are related to storms. If it's calm outside, there probably won't be much wind. Or if there is, it's not very fast; it's a light breeze. In contrast, storms involve a lot of fast wind. Have you ever noticed that when it's stormy, you also tend to feel the wind?
