The main objective of Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technology is to improve road safety, energy savings and traffic efficiency on the roads. But what is V2X and how does it work?

Commsignia Senior Program Manager Andy Chappell and UTAC Chief Engineer for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Peter Stoker explain it all during the Vehicle for Everything demonstration at the Commsignia Test Center UTAC Millbrook.

Zenzic, the organization dedicated to accelerating the UK's autonomous driving revolution, has announced the launch of a V2X project, led by Commsignia and in partnership with CAM partners Testbed UK.

Working with technology companies Vodafone and Nokia, the project aims to assess the current “state of play” in the UK Vehicle 2 Everything (V2X) landscape and deploy a pilot installation on CAM Testbed UK. The aim is to provide a reliable, reliable and secure, scalable service for end-to-end trials and testing of initial V2X services.

Although fully automated vehicles and associated services are beginning to emerge in the UK, the volume of connected vehicles on the UK's roads has increased. The UK transport sector has reached a critical juncture in the rollout of connected car services and while discussions around V2X in the UK are intensifying, there is still work to be done on development and services necessary to realize its value. Collaboration and coordination between road operators, mobile network operators and vehicle manufacturers will be necessary for V2X services to progress towards deployment.

The project, funded by the government's Center for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) and coordinated by Zenzic, will be led by Commsignia and will bring together UK expertise in V2X services. Partners include UTAC Millbrook and Horiba MIRA, both part of global leader CAM Testbed UK, as well as Vodafone. This collaboration will see the development of the training and skills map required for this emerging sector whilst using CAM Testbed UK as a facilitator.
