A year in Provence – Peter Mayle
https://amzn.to/2x1uFHY
A British writer's account of moving to a village in the south of France. While not a wild adventure like you might expect in a stereotypical travelogue, Mayle's dry humor and loving attention to eccentric details illustrate how even seemingly simple situations can be completely absurd when written well.

The Age of Kali: Indian Travels and Encounters – William Dalrymple
https://amzn.to/2xTJrk4
The first book I read by the writer and travel historian William Dalrymple is still one of my favorites. This collection of essays from his (very extensive and in-depth) travels through South Asia is the perfect example of the effective use of dialogue in travel writing.

The Shooting Star Travel Blog – Shivya Nath
https://the-shooting-star.com/category/stories-from-the-road/
Shivya's blog is one of the few that I actively read and cherish. This solo traveler from India has mastered the art of transporting readers to places near and far through her words, and she always does so with immense respect and care for the people and places she travels to.

Zirrar
https://zirrar.com/blog/
Ali, who goes by Zirrar online, brings his Islamic perspective to the world of travel, particularly to countries traditionally viewed through colonial lenses. He often amazes me with his ability to be both poetic and sharp when introducing his readers and followers to places many of us have barely heard of, and he's not afraid to a little of controversy.

Expedition: On the (almost deadly) comfort of a luxury cruise – David Foster Wallace
https://harpers.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/HarpersMagazine-1996-01-0007859.pdf (PDF)
A test on a cruise?! Is this even travel writing?! If anything, this is satirical travel writing at its finest. Although sometimes long, DFW is full of dark humor, totally skeptical and does a fantastic job of illustrating a scene down to the smallest bizarre details.
