Advances in sports technology, both among elites and amateurs, have led to increased interest in how best to use this technology to appropriately monitor athletes. Although athlete monitoring is now standard practice for professional athletes, questions remain about which variables are best suited to monitor “load” and how they relate to athletes' adaptation journeys. This conference will aim to discuss current technology and practices used in the industry for athlete tracking, with a focus on the gaps that still remain in the athlete tracking conundrum.

About James Malone:

Dr James Malone is currently a Senior Lecturer in Coaching Science at Liverpool Hope University and acts as a consultant to several sports teams. Dr Malone completed his PhD in 2013 while working as a sports scientist at Liverpool FC, responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of the first team. Subsequently, he spent 3 years working for sports technology company Catapult Sports, as an applied sports scientist and education manager in the European region. Since 2015, Dr Malone has taken up his current role at Liverpool Hope University, where he continues to research the latest developments in athlete monitoring, alongside his teaching duties at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
