Sharing everything I've learned in 8 years of "larger than life" photography with a smartphone.
A macro lens for your mobile phone can help you get closer to smaller subjects. I have had the pleasure of using several small lenses for my iPhones over the years including Olloclip, InstaLens (no longer made), SquidCam (no longer made) and Moment, there are many others to choose from, I suggests doing some research for the one that suits your phone first and avoid buying a very cheap lens, use the more expensive ones if you can. There are lenses available for most mobile phones (Android and Apple).

In my experience, there is no significant difference in how you use different cell phone macro lens systems. They all do essentially the same thing, but as with lenses for big cameras, there is a difference between very cheap lenses and more expensive ones. I would consider cheap to be under 20 (US). The most expensive ones cost around 100 (US), but depending on the country you are in, there are also good brands available at moderate prices.
