With a warm smile, Achuth begins his talk on the perils and promises of Ed-Tech.

He works at Amplify Education, a company that supports academic learning, teaching and assessment using technology. When he quit his job and returned to India, he became discouraged after hearing his friend talk about the education system in India. He played simple technology-related games among audiences to gain knowledge about different technologies and came to two conclusions.

Education has always relied on technology, he said, and this is nothing new. The difference is that today's education is developing a new technology, "indemit". This is similar to the articles we are talking about today.

Tech companies, he says, think Ed-Tech companies aren't like them. Everyone has a question: how do we encourage people to use technology? This is not the question we should be asking ourselves; rather, this question should be replaced by the question of how we can solve the problems of education through technology. The answer to this question was a bit disappointing, as technology must replace teachers.

Then he arrived at the main session of his speech. What can Ed-tech do to revolutionize education in the future? For this, he came up with a picture drawn by a Japanese artist in 1969, which showed children's use of computers in the classroom, even at the time when computers were just being introduced. Through this, he explained the importance of the three Es: Equity, Expansion and Excellence. Apart from this, he added the importance of fun in education.

The Internet, he said, can solve the problem of access and accommodate many children. He can also teach by channeling teachers from around the world, in and out of the classroom. So people can have fun. The funny thing, he says, is that education can do all of these things if the focus is on the right problems and the right choices are made to solve that problem. This is the promise of Ed-Tech and it is simply Ed-Tech.
