The cosmic microwave background [CMB] is the oldest light in the universe that we can see or detect. It was issued only 380,000 years after the birth of the universe, at a time when the universe was much less peaceful. The statics of microwave bands are fundamentally linked to the Big Bang, and if we map them precisely enough, we can uncover a wealth of information about the age, composition, and structure of the universe.
