Viewers learned how technology, including the proliferation of new technologies, is being designed and tested to help older adults stay healthy and live independently. We live in a time when the growth in the number and proportion of older adults is unprecedented in U.S. history. By 2030, there will be 72 million older adults in the United States, and they will represent approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population. Multiple chronic conditions put them at risk for frailty and loss of independence as they age.

This Grand Rounds session explored how technology can help older adults live safely and independently for as long as possible. The session included a discussion of the opportunities and challenges presented by technology in promoting optimal aging.
