Taxonomy and taxonomic hierarchy, i.e. the biological classification of living things, are explained in this video lesson. This video explains the taxonomic hierarchy and shows the taxonomic categories or ranks of living things. In the taxonomic hierarchy, the biological classification of living things is divided into 7 levels of taxonomy which are Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species.

What is taxonomy and taxonomic hierarchy?
Taxonomy in biology refers to the classification of organisms based on their characteristics. This hierarchical system of ranking and classification of organisms at the species level is called taxonomic hierarchy, that is, biological classification of living things. The taxonomic hierarchy categories are also known as the Linnaean hierarchy because they were introduced by Linnaeus.

The broadest classifications are by domain and kingdom, while the most specific classification is by genus and species. Each species has certain identifiers that are unique to it and describes them.
