We study people.
We study how they move, how they think and how they react under pressure. We study how their body responds to exercise; from couch to 5k to monitoring
elite sporting performance. We examine how exercise is beneficial before surgical procedures, how the menstrual cycle affects susceptibility to injury, and how exercise benefits mental health. We study all this and more.

Our home is Lancaster Medical School, renowned for the quality of its teaching and its commitment to encouraging its students to bring out the best in themselves. To do this, we intentionally have small class sizes where you will get to know the academic team (and they will get to know you) and where you will form friendships that will last a lifetime.

Our academic teams are all leaders in their respective research areas, and this 'research-led teaching' brings real benefits as you learn from and contribute to world-class research led by faculty who are passionate about teaching. As well as the Sports and Exercise Sciences team, your Biology modules will be taught by our colleagues in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, a department currently ranked 4th in the UK by the Guardian University Guide.

All of this will give you both the technical skills of a sport and exercise scientist, as well as the transferable skills that will make you valuable to a wide range of employers. Our graduates have pursued Masters level studies here and in the United States and have been employed by major pharmaceutical and paramedical companies.

Studying Sports and Exercise Science at Lancaster University will give you the confidence to continue your studies wherever you choose.
