This movie shows a simulated disk galaxy that is similar to our Milky Way galaxy in mass and size. The purple-red color map shows the smoothed gas distribution inside the galaxy, while the white dots represent each simulated star particle.

The researcher (Dr. Weiguang Cui) and his collaborator performed a very high resolution simulation in Archer to search for disk-shaped galaxies and understand their formation in cosmological content. This simulation includes a very complex model that mimics most of the baryonic processes occurring in the Universe.

The movie shows an example of a typical disk-shaped galaxy formed during the simulation. The team is currently working to understand its formation by looking back at its full history.
