Financial advisors don’t offer reverse mortgages. They can’t because you need a lender’s license to do it legally. So why is this so confusing? Because it’s a financial planning tool that financial planners can’t offer unless they have a lender’s license, which they typically don’t.

Lenders don’t consider it a financial planning tool because they are not financial planners, that’s not their job. This tool requires coordination between financial advisors and lenders. In many cases, people who take out a reverse mortgage don’t even have a financial advisor because all their wealth is tied up in the value of their home.

And don’t even get me started on online financial influencers who aren’t licensed financial advisors or lenders—they don’t know shit.
