9 out of 10 people in the world breathe polluted air. Worse still, more than 100 countries do not have air quality monitoring stations, and in those that do, they are often insufficient.
Karrim Tarraf is working on a scalable, accurate, adaptable and traceable system to capture large-scale air quality data and cross-reference it with the most diverse dataset to combat environmental injustice. Karim Tarraf is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Hawa Dawa, a Munich-based company ranked among the top 10 innovators in Germany and top 35 in Europe by the MIT Technology Review, among others. His company is pioneering the use of sensor and satellite data to track and analyze air quality and correlate it with specific use cases in large cities. Its goal is to make environmental data easily accessible so that it allows cities, businesses and citizens to drive climate neutrality via an intuitive platform.

Born and raised in Cairo, he has coordinated climate mitigation projects for organizations such as the United Nations Environment Program and BMU in Southeast Asia and the MENA region. He is a frequent guest at stakeholder consultations on climate change and air pollution issues organized by the World Health Organization. Alongside his work at Hawa Dawa, he is also a start-up mentor at Cairo University's FEPS Incubation Center. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
