The SDG Moment serves to highlight the Sustainable Development Goals each year and will be held at the start of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly. This comes as the world faces a growing cost of living crisis that carries huge implications for advancing the SDGs, particularly in developing countries.

Hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Moment will provide world leaders with a platform to showcase the bold actions and solutions needed to put the world on the right path towards achieving the SDGs. The SDG Moment event is expected to build momentum as we move towards the SDG Summit in 2023.

At a time of great uncertainty, the SDGs – a plan to end poverty, tackle the climate crisis and boost the economy – show the way to a better future for all on a safe and healthy planet.

Scaling up action on the SDGs would require transformational change in current policies, governance arrangements and economic systems. There is a need to ensure equitable access to vaccine supplies, broad recovery plans in key sectors and access to finance for developing countries.

About the SDG Moment
The third SDG Moment will take place in person on Monday, September 19, 2022. This 90-minute event in the United Nations General Assembly Hall will set the scene and lead into the Education Transformation Summit.

To this end, the 2022 SDG Moment:

Strengthen the continued relevance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and create momentum for major summits and intergovernmental meetings.
Highlight urgent actions for a fair, inclusive and accelerated transition to sustainable development.
Demonstrate that large-scale transformative change is possible by 2030.
