In this easy clothing upcycling tutorial, I'll show you how to turn denim shorts into crossbody bags. From a pair of denim shorts, I made 4 compact crossbody bags with handy, built-in pockets perfect for your cell phone and other essentials – perfect for those times when you don't want to carry around a big purse.

A friend gave me these brand new denim shorts that she bought for her daughter but they didn't fit her. She didn't bother returning them for a refund so she challenged me to upcycle them into something else. As soon as I saw them I thought the shorts would be perfect to upcycle into several small crossbody bags. The pockets are the perfect size for a cell phone with plenty of room inside for other essentials.
Thanks so much for watching. I hope I've inspired you to transform an old pair of shorts you no longer wear.
If you would like to see more recycling projects like this, please give me a thumbs up, it really helps.

ABOUT SECOND LIFE RECYCLING
Second Life Upcycling is about altering and recycling clothing to give it a second life, inspiring people to recycle, reuse, remodel, repurpose and rethink. On this channel you will find easy, quick and simple step-by-step clothing upcycling tips and easy sewing tutorials. I have been thrifting, secondhand shopping and sewing for over 30 years. I started thrifting in the 1980s. My passion is to follow an ethical style when it comes to my clothing choices and live an eco-friendly life. I rarely buy new clothes (or anything new for that matter), I prefer to shop secondhand at stores, Goodwill, Vinnies, Salvos and flea markets.

THE ADVANTAGES OF CLOTHING UPCYCLING
Recycling clothing promotes a more sustainable, creative and responsible approach to fashion, which contributes to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future.
* Clothing recycling helps reduce waste by reusing used or unwanted clothing, often diverting it from landfills.
*With the fashion industry being one of the largest polluters on the planet, recycling and reusing clothing reduces the need for new materials and decreases carbon emissions associated with the production and disposal of clothing.
* Traditional clothing manufacturing consumes significant amounts of water, energy and raw materials. Recycling clothing not only extends the life of existing textiles, thereby preserving these precious resources, but also promotes more sustainable consumption patterns.
* Recycling clothing and other materials encourages creative freedom by transforming old clothes into unique and personalized garments. Recycling and sewing promotes innovation and encourages people to experiment with designs, creating unique items that reflect personal style and creativity.
* Recycling clothes can be very cost effective by reducing the money spent on buying new clothes, but can also help charities when clothes are purchased second hand from charities.
* Repairing and mending clothes increases the longevity of existing garments, allowing them to remain in your wardrobe for a long time and limiting the need to purchase new clothing. This is in contrast to fast fashion items, which are often designed for short-term use.
