In this video series, George Russell, Jr., author of the Berklee Online course and chair of the Harmony and Jazz Composition Department, explains how to develop your musicianship. Through several exercises and practical applications, it covers topics such as the major and minor scale, major and minor triads and the minor pentatonic scale. George also defines concepts such as ear training, harmony, tonal center and intervals. You will use these subjects to develop the foundations necessary to understand the different applications of music theory. To get the most out of the course, George recommends having an accessible piano or keyboard to fully engage and participate and gives advice on practice time.

About George W. Russell, Jr.:
George W. Russell, Jr. is a performer, composer and educator. His performances range from solo piano, to a groove-oriented jazz trio, to a larger, soulful ensemble that stirs the listener's intellect and, more importantly, touches their soul. George is chair of the harmony department at Berklee College of Music. Before becoming president, he was a professor of harmony and piano at Berklee. George received the Ted Pease Award for Teaching Excellence, as well as the Curriculum Development Award for the Writing Division. George also received Berklee's highest honor for faculty, the Most Distinguished Faculty Award.
