Meta's hardware roadmap has been leaked and there are exciting new products planned in the coming years.
Meta is reportedly launching the Quest 3 this year, a thinner, more powerful headset. The company also plans to launch new AR glasses and smartwatches to accompany them. Later this year, the company will launch next-generation glasses to follow the camera-equipped glasses launched in 2021.
In 2025, 3rd generation glasses will come with a screen to view incoming text messages, scan QR codes and translate text from another language in real time. The glasses will come with a “neural interface” band that allows the wearer to control the glasses through hand movements. The plan of these also allows the user to use a virtual keyboard. The watch will accompany the glasses and integrate social applications with health and fitness
In 2027, the first pair of truly AR glasses will be released, designed to project high-quality avatar holograms onto the real world. Zuckerberg predicts that such glasses will be as ubiquitous as our smartphones in the future.
Companies like Apple, Google, and Snap are also trying to design devices for AR and VR. Meta has a head start at this point, but will have plenty of competition moving forward. At Chip Stock Investor, we own meta stocks, but are even more bullish on mobile computing stocks like Qualcomm, which are helping fuel this new wave of mobile devices.
