If you or a loved one uses a medical alert system, you need it to be reliable. But if you're carrying a portable system everywhere you go, you also want it to be small, light and discreet. The new Mini Guardian from Medical Guardian checks all of these boxes.

SeniorLiving.org wants you to know the facts about this sleek new device so you can find the medical alert system that's right for you. I'll unbox and test the Mini Guardian, and list the features, pros, cons, and latest prices. I will explain to you who can benefit from this new life-saving device, such as active seniors.

Although the Mini Guardian lives up to its name by being small, it is not the smallest medical alert system on the market. In fact, it's not even the smallest emergency response device Medical Guardian makes! This designation goes to the Freedom Guardian smartwatch. But since it is worn on the wrist, it cannot detect falls. The Mini Guardian can. The other two portable medical alert systems offered by Medical Guardian are the Mobile Guardian, which can be carried in your purse or pocket, or worn on your belt. And the smaller Active Guardian, which is worn around the neck like a lanyard. The Mini Guardian is an upgrade over the Active Guardian.

Who needs a portable system, like the Mini Guardian? Mobile seniors who leave home alone, drive or take public transportation, bike, walk, shop, exercise, visit friends, volunteer, and enjoy community activities life. Those of us who are suffering from an illness that might require immediate medical attention, whether at home or away. And people who tend to fall.

In times of stress, being able to call for help at the touch of a button can make all the difference. Unlike 911, the call center has your information, allowing it to know who is calling and your health status. You can even call for non-emergency help. And with fall detection, the Mini Guardian will call for help even when you can't. Let me explain how this cutting-edge equipment can protect you…or a loved one.

Even though it's small enough to wear around your neck, this little tech titan still manages to pack in an assortment of fantastic features, including:

* Three different location technologies: global positioning system, WiFi and cellular triangulation.
* 4G technology for improved communication. Many medical alert systems still rely on slower 3G technology.
*A battery that will power the device for up to 5 days.
* It's water resistant, so you can wear it in the shower.
*And in addition to HD speakers with noise reduction, a microphone and an emergency call button, the Mini Guardian also includes built-in fall detection! The device contains an accelerometer that constantly calculates whether you have fallen. If the high-tech device determines that this is the case, it proactively calls the call center. They're not 100% accurate, but they could mean the difference between life and death.
