All people feel anger, but those with BPD or borderline personality traits have specific triggers that can set them off into an episode of anger or rage. Knowing these triggers can help you learn to identify and control your anger and rage.

Anger or rage is likely to manifest in people with BPD when they feel like a failure, neglected, alone, rejected, or abandoned. Once triggered, the person with BPD tends to wonder if their caregiver, love object, or favorite person cares and gives enough.

Once the individual with BPD experiences an episode of rage, panic usually follows with often reckless execution (angry behaviors or gestures toward or toward another) for the love object to provide the affection and attention so sought after and necessary.

What tends to happen is that the love object may become scared, angry, anxious, or a whole host of other emotions that cause greater distancing out of fear of having to protect themselves. When this happens, the person with BPD feels more alone but continues to engage in the anger/rage episode trying to get an external force to provide the necessary control – inpatient placement may be necessary. This unfortunately becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy often seen in BPD.

Remember, knowledge is power and understanding your anger and rage and how they correspond to your BPD can help you identify triggers, emotional buttons and the type of anger you have, then learn and use anger reduction techniques to help you control your BPD. your anger and your life.
