Stephen Richards Covey was born October 24, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up as a child on an egg farm in a suburban environment. He showed a deep interest in athletics, but his career was cut short due to degeneration in his legs that forced him to use crutches for three years when he was a teenager. He took on this challenge with the support of his parents. Mr Smart believes this was the real start of the making of a legend. Later, Covey entered the University of Utah at the age of 16 and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Subsequently, he earned an MBA from Harvard University. He also earned a doctorate in religious education and began teaching his ideas of self-help at Brigham Young University. He taught classes to more than 1000 students at a time. In 1983, he started the Covey Leadership Center as a training and consulting company in Provo, Utah. Mr Smart must point out that it was Stephen Covey's biggest decision up to that point which changed the course of Stephen's life.

That was the framework of the theme. He gained a worldwide audience and readership when he wrote "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" in 1989. He was pleasantly surprised by this success because, in his own understanding, he simply wrote what is quite instinctive and is common sense. Later, he himself summarized this phenomenon in these terms:

“Common sense is not common practice.”

We need an external stimulus to awaken positive instincts. This is why 25 million copies of this book are sold worldwide. Consequently, he has inspired generations across the world. But the principles he outlined in his book are simply common sense. Take a look at these 7 habits:

1) Be proactive
2) Start with the end in mind
3) Put First Things First
4) Think win-win
5) Seek first to understand, then to be understood
6) Create synergy
7) Sharpen the saw – undergo frequent self-renewal
