Theoretical physicist Dr Andrew Mitchell presents an advanced undergraduate/introductory masters level lecture course on the quantum physics of condensed matter at University College Dublin. This is a comprehensive, self-contained set of courses in which theory is built from scratch and requires only basic knowledge of quantum mechanics.
In this talk I give a basic introduction to the topic. I explain the concepts of collective behavior and emergent phenomena, and discuss the many-body problem in physics. This lecture sets the stage for the rest of the course.
