Professor John Quinton gives an introduction to soil safety.

These videos were produced as part of a NERC-funded doctoral training programme in collaboration with Lancaster University, the James Hutton Institute and the British Society of Soil Science.

The British Society of Soil Science is an international membership organisation and charity dedicated to the study of soils in its widest aspects. It is funded primarily by subscriptions and income from publications. The Society serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and provides a platform for representing the views of soil scientists to other organisations and decision-making bodies. It promotes research through the organisation of several conferences each year and through the publication of its two scientific journals, the European Journal of Soil Science and Soil Use and Management. It promotes education through a number of initiatives aimed at schools, colleges and universities. The Society offers a regular and varied programme of scientific conferences on a wide range of soil-related issues.

The British Society of Soil Science encourages anyone with an interest in soils, whether that interest is in soils themselves or their wider use in the environment, to join the society. Membership is paid, with discounts for students and people from low-income countries.
