India will unveil its new 18 petaFLOP supercomputer for use by weather forecasting institutes later this year. It will be imported from the French company ATOS. A supercomputer is a computer with a high level of performance compared to a general-purpose computer. A supercomputer's performance is typically measured in floating point operations per second (FLOPS) instead of millions of instructions per second (MIPS).
