In this video I demonstrate how to receive weather images directly from NOAA weather satellites in space. A simple V dipole, an RTL-SDR V4 software defined receiver (SDR) and some free software are all you need to receive APT (Automated Picture Transmission) signals via satellite at home. SDRSharp is used to FM demodulate the received signal, WXtoImg decodes the demodulated audio and creates weather images from the received data. At the time of this video, there are 3 NOAA weather satellites (NOAA 15, 18 and 19) transmitting weather images via the APT service in the frequency range 137 to 138 MHz. Due to the relatively low frequency, a Doppler shift correction can be neglected by choosing a sufficiently high demodulation bandwidth.
