First, fewer changes mean more. Unrealistic photos are almost ALWAYS the result of over-editing. When photographers try to make their photo something it's not, they run into this common pitfall.
Second, you should avoid presence sliders in #Lightroom and #Photoshop like PLAGUE. While there is a time and place to use these sliders in moderation, most of the time photographers overcook their images with these "eye" sliders.
Third, you should avoid creating traditional HDR images. Allow your image to have light highlights and dark shadows, and it will appear much more realistic and appealing to the eye.
