Anxiety is one of the most common mental health disorders, affecting probably 1 in 14 people worldwide. Leading to conditions such as depression, increased risk of suicide, disability and the need for higher quality health services, very few people who often need treatment actually receive it. In her talk 'How to Cope with Anxiety', Olivia Remes from the University of Cambridge will share her views on anxiety and reveal ways to treat and manage this health disorder. Arguing that treatments such as psychotherapy and medication exist and often lead to poor outcomes and high rates of relapse, she will highlight the importance of harnessing the strength within ourselves as we change our coping mechanisms to problems . Olivia will highlight that allowing ourselves to believe that what happens in life is complete, meaningful and manageable can significantly improve the risk of developing anxiety disorders.
