Health technology assessments (HTAs) play a central role in contemporary public health, providing a structured strategy for examining the clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and broader societal implications of health technologies. These may include medicines, medical devices, diagnostic tools or various interventions within the health system. HTAs integrate elements of health economics and systematic literature reviews to merge evidence from diverse sources, thereby guiding policy decisions regarding the implementation, modification, or discontinuation of certain technologies. These assessments are commonly used by public health authorities, insurance companies and health departments to maximize the effectiveness of limited resources, endorse evidence-based clinical practice and improve patient outcomes. Therefore, HTAs provide an integral mechanism to ensure that decisions regarding health technologies are transparent, methodical and based on the strongest available evidence.
