The legendary Eiger stands 3970 m above Grindelwald and has fascinated visitors to the valley for decades, particularly since 1858, when local mountain guides Christian Almer and Peter Bohren and their guest Charles Barrington reached the summit for the first time. Known as the “last problem in the Alps”

The north face of the Eiger was finally conquered in 1938 by Anderl Heckmair, Fritz Kasparek, Ludwig Vörg and Heinrich Harrer, during a battle fought over 4 days. Today, world-class climbers tackle the Eiger North Face alone in less than two and a half hours. The Eiger Ultra Trail was launched in 2013.
