80% of goods reach us by sea. But the carbon footprint of this mode of transport is terribly bad. Ships are responsible for almost 3% of global CO2 emissions. Shipping companies know that their vessels need a serious green boost.

Without ships, there is no global trade. New legal requirements and environmentally conscious customers are putting increasing pressure on shipping companies to offer CO2-neutral transport. If these companies want to continue to play a key role, they must act. Faced with this situation, a few pioneers are taking the first difficult steps. They want to convert their ships to climate-neutral fuels. This is a bold step.

While the energy transition has been underway for a long time in other transport sectors, climate protection in international shipping has so far received little attention. But the sector is now under pressure. Legal requirements have been adopted or are about to be adopted, both at national and international level.

The film accompanies shipowners, engineers and researchers in their energy transition. The sector must be reorganized in a way that protects the climate and the environment, while ensuring the profitability of international shipping. Can this change succeed in time?
