Yes, your leftovers are safe to eat IF they were cooked safely to begin with.

One of the biggest reasons people don't allow themselves to save time and money by meal prepping is the FEAR that food won't be safe in the refrigerator overnight or for a few days.

Foods that are properly cooked (i.e. no undercooked meat) and stored in airtight containers (no Saran Wrap on a plate) in a working refrigerator will be safe to eat for up to one week depending on the meal.

We generally recommend 4 days. Because after 4 days, even if it's edible, it's not super appetizing.

Additionally, not all meals “work” as leftovers – meaning some meals are simply meant to be eaten fresh while others can become even more delicious when stored in the fridge overnight (like chili, curry, etc.).

This is where we come in! All recipes on the WWL program and on our site (and in our book!) are made to be stored in the refrigerator for a few days and eaten as meal prep/leftovers.

Need good information on containers? Google “workweek lunch containers” for our recommendations and links for containers at all price points, sizes and more.

Good preparation !
