The Applied Science program helps people around the world use NASA data to solve big problems right here on Earth. We provide support and funding to help institutions and individuals make better decisions about our environment, food, water, health and safety. Learn more on the Applied Sciences website: https://appliedsciences.nasa.gov/
Earth observation is defined as the collection of information about the physical, chemical and biological systems of planet Earth. There are many techniques for gathering information about Earth's changing climate through remote sensing, photographs, radar and sonar images, and much more! To learn more about Earth observation, be sure to check out the GEOS (Group on Earth Observations) FAQ page for more general information: https://www.earthobservations.org/g_faq.html
Remote sensing is defined as the collection of information at a particular distance. These techniques use remote sensors on satellites and aircraft that detect and record reflected or emitted energy. To learn more about remote sensing, be sure to check out NASA's Earth Data site, which provides a general overview of this type of Earth observation: https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/backgrounders/ remote sensing
