Our ocean is under pressure from pollution, CO2 emissions, overfishing, etc. There is a United Nations plan for the ocean (Sustainable Development Goal 14), but there are many stakeholders. They all need science to understand the impact of their activities on “our blue house”. Solutions cannot be developed in isolation, which is why the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) will be essential. By sharing information and approaching ocean issues from different perspectives, we will increase our chances of reversing the decline of our oceans before it is too late.

Stein van Oosterem explains the concept of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science.
