In his presentation, Dr. Betrus compares the qualities of traditional sports and Esports. It then describes the benefits of esports in K-12 and higher education environments, and how esports prepares learners for future STEM careers. Dr. Anthony Betrus is a professor of educational technology and business at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He serves as the NCAA faculty sports representative, gaming club advisor, and college esports director. He is also the STEM director of the National Education Foundation. His primary area of research involves using the motivational qualities of simulations and games to promote learning.
