►SCRIPT
Number 1:
Make video mixes like I do on Youtube *insert MWM demo and demo of another mix with me in front*
So if you want to do something similar, it's pretty easy.
You will need to do 5 things:
1. Conceptualize a mix
2. Set up your gear and practice this mix
3. When you are ready, set up your camera
4. Press Record on your DJ software and camera, then enable screen recording on your computer
5. After you have recorded everything together in one perfect take, simply import those 3 clips into your editing software and put it all together.
Now there are two things I love about creating video mixes.
The first thing is that you practice and improve yourself as a DJ as well.
Recording that perfect set will take a lot of time. Trust me. So the more you practice your mix over and over again, the better you will become at practicing the mix or transition you are trying to emphasize. Remember, if you can't do it on camera, how can you do it in front of an audience 😉
Number 2 is that you create content to better market yourself as a DJ
Building a fan base on Youtube, Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Instagram and even Facebook is really the new battleground for DJs who want to get booked and recognized. You see, if you're not a producer, you have to show the world how you mix and what you mix!
So the more you focus on growing your brand by creating content, the more you will benefit in the long run.
So make these mixes and videos!
Number 2:
Download music for FREE!
One of the questions I get asked most often in my videos is “where can I download my music?” And the short answer to that question is that, RIGHT NOW, I download most of my music through DJ pools like DJ City and BPM Supreme. You can think of these pools as libraries of music that you can download for a monthly fee.
The problem is that not everyone here can afford a pool of records. Most DJs, at least the young beginners, can barely afford DJ equipment, let alone a paid monthly subscription.
So that's what I did when I first started and couldn't steal my mom's credit card.
I… copied music from YouTube and Soundcloud. And I'm not proud of it.
Anyway, here's how I did it back then. I'm not encouraging you to do it, I'm just telling you how to do it…
1. Search for the desired track and copy the URL
2. Search on Google Youtube Mp3 Ripper and choose the one that suits you best
3. Paste your link and click download.
4. Feel guilty because you are now a pirate.
Number 3:
With your new music.
Prepare them properly and you will find a very handy video on how to do it here.
But to sum up.
Analyze your tracks, set them to a beat grid, indicate the start of the track you want to use, and indicate the sections you want to mix in.
It's a tedious process, but it's a good practice to follow when you're uploading new items.
Because every new track you download and prepare can be instantly used by a professional DJ!
