Leopard geckos are some of the best pets you can ever keep. Reptiles can make great pets and all kinds of lizards seem to be becoming increasingly popular as pets for children and adults. Whether this is your first or fiftieth pet reptile, leopard geckos make excellent cold-blooded companions. These medium-sized pet lizards only measure about 7 to 10 inches on average and typically weigh only 50 to 80 grams. Giant leopard geckos and super giant leopard geckos are of course outliers. The space requirements are also very simple, with a minimum size enclosure being a 20 gallon long tank or approximately 30 x 18 inches of floor space. If you wanted to expand with a 40 gallon enclosure or even larger, that would be a great idea too! To keep your new friend at the right temperature, I recommend an overhead heat source like a halogen lamp or perhaps a ceramic heat emitter with a stone under the heat source to capture the heat. You can also heat the case from the bottom with heat tape or a heat mat on a thermostat if you like. Providing skins on both sides and moist skin to help the pet itch and hydrate is also a great idea. Bioactive enclosures are amazing for leopard geckos and I think these types of gecko setups really bring out the natural behavior in your gecko friend. The diet is also simple and feeding all kinds of insects like crickets and mealworms, Dubia cockroaches and black soldier fly larvae is great fun watching your gecko hunt. These amazing little lizards are so fun and it's really no wonder that leopard geckos make such amazing pets for both beginner and advanced reptile keepers.
