According to scientists, if by 2100 global temperatures rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to levels recorded in 1850, the consequences could be devastating for people and the environment. But will we succeed in achieving this ambitious goal? All over the world, politicians, businesses, laboratories and universities are struggling to find solutions.
The film crew visits climate rescuers in Sudan, Indonesia and Europe. Their inventive minds cool buildings, connect countries with green power lines or suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Their work helps determine the living conditions of future generations.
Every time the women of Shagra plant an acacia plant in the sand of Darfur, it is a great joy in the Sudanese village. The tree will sink its roots up to 100 meters into the ground and will be better able to withstand the droughts of the Sahel than most other plants. It will secrete gum sap when women scratch the bark after a few years. The sale of gum arabic will reduce poverty in the village.
65,000 acacia trees are already growing in Darfur: a blessing for this extremely poor region, but also a reservoir of carbon dioxide which can help limit global warming.
