Car subscriptions are a new type of lease/rental hybrid, with more features. They can be offered by car manufacturers, dealers or startups. They are innovative in three main ways:

Short term:
Many plans are month-to-month, so you don't have to commit long-term to a financial arrangement or a specific car that you may want to change months, or even days, from now.

Choice of cars:
What you really want is an SUV for family trips, a sports car for occasional weekend trips, and an econobox for those utilitarian tasks at work. That's a lot of cars. With some subscriptions, you can have all of these cars, just one at a time.

Package prices:
The car(s), maintenance, insurance, taxes and roadside assistance are usually bundled into one price. All you pay is gas, parking and, in some plans, excess mileage.
