If an author ever writes a book and can relax for the rest of their life, that's almost as rare as a unicorn. Most authors have to write numerous books and continue to market their work to make a living, let alone retire. This isn't to say that there isn't a lot of money to be made as an author, but it does mean that you need to be realistic and plan for success and not expect success to just happen if you write a good book.
