2 – Weather

Hot and humid! Really hot and humid! Like all the time!
Year-round daytime temperatures exceed 30°C/86°F.
Bangkok claims to be the hottest city in the world
Not because the peaks are the highest, but because it's not cool at night
Minimum temperatures range from 21°C to 26°C (70F-79F)

April to October is the humid and hot season

The “cool” dry season runs from November to February, a degree or 2 cooler on the highs and a few degrees cooler on the lows.

3. Enter

Chances are you will arrive in Bangkok by plane, yes there are buses, and yes there is a train, and you can take it from Singapore, but most people fly.

2 airports
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK).
Most international flights go to BKK

By train :
The Airport Rail Link connects Suvarnabhumi Airport to the BTS Skytrain system, which is Bangkok's main public transportation system. The City Line connects to the BTS Skytrain at Phayathai Station and costs 45 baht from Suvarnabhumi.

By taxi:
Metered taxis are available from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok.

4. Getting around

MRT Subway
The price varies according to age

People don't queue. Instead of queuing, Thais form a crowd. Hold on and get used to the lack of personal space in public places.

Taxis
Famous for ripping off tourists. Make sure they turn on the meter. It should start at 35 THB. Or download the GrabTaxi app – like Uber, but cheaper.

Tuk tuk
A small vehicle without windows or doors but with a roof and a seat.
The price is always negotiated
Make sure you hold the handles, tuk tuk drivers can be crazy drivers

Motorcycle taxis
It's better to cross traffic
And come with a free massive heart attack!

5. Money
Thai Baht

1 Thai Baht cost approximately US$0.03
Or 33 Baht to 1 USD

In Thailand, there are 1 baht, 2 baht, 5 baht and 10 baht coins as well as 20 baht, 50 baht, 100 baht and 1,000 baht notes. You can also sometimes see a 10 baht note, although these are no longer printed.

Get it at an ATM, but select “Continue without conversion”

6. What to wear

Linen, Rayon or Wicking/Quick Dry Fabrics

DON’T WEAR JEANS – you will burn! Don’t wear something lined with polyester either – it’s just as good as carrying a ziplock bag.

Temples and palaces require you to cover your shoulders and knees.
pay attention to see if others have taken off their shoes. If so, do the same.

7. Language
Large cities like Chiang Mai and Bangkok have many residents who speak English.

/"Sawadiikaa/" for women and /"Sawadiikrap/" for men – This is the Thai greeting for hello and goodbye, accompanied by the gesture /"wai/".
place your hands, palms together on your chest and tilt your head
Also note that adding kaa or krap to any sentence in Thai makes the sentence more polite.
/"Kapkhunkaa/" for women, and /"Kapkhunkrap/" for men – This means thank you, and it is also often accompanied by the gesture /"wai/".
/"Chuai buht meter dai mai kaa/krap?/" – /"Could you turn on the meter?/"
/"Gepdthang noi/" – Please check.
/"Mai ao/" – This word means /"I don't understand,/" but can generally be used to deny any interest in purchasing anything.
/"Krungthep/" – This is the word for Bangkok in Thai. Many people mistakenly think that Bangkok is a Thai word. This is not the case, and knowing the real word can be helpful.

9. Food

10. Bug spray

11. Respect the king and the royal family
