We've heard it all year and we agree; vehicles are getting expensive! The average transaction price for a new car is almost $50,000 and almost double some people's budget, but all is not lost, there are still good values available. In what might be our most important category this year, we have the list of finalists for the Auto Buyer's Guide's 2024 Value Car of the Year. Value means something different to everyone, so if you think we've missed something or have things to consider for next year, let us know!

The Toyota Corolla has become a family of vehicles, but the Corolla Cross Hybrid offers an exceptional value proposition. With an increasingly popular crossover design in the U.S. and Toyota's efficient and reliable hybrid powertrains (not to mention standard all-wheel drive), we think the extra money over the standard Corolla Cross is worth it. penalty.

Subaru has made its name making practical, all-wheel-drive vehicles, and in that sense the Impreza is about as Subaru as it gets. With a starting price (including destination and delivery) of $24,085, you get a reliable symmetrical all-wheel-drive system in a usable hatchback with a low roofline for all your rack-hauling needs. Not much has changed for the 2024 model year, but that lack of change is what helps make it such a good value. If Subaru adds more to the car, you end up paying more for it and as it's the value category that doesn't always help its case.

The Chevrolet Trax has one distinct difference from the rest of the vehicles on this list and that is the decision to make this front-wheel drive only. By only powering two wheels instead of four, you end up reducing complexity and ultimately saving money. Additionally, front-wheel drive is the preferred driving configuration for anyone who wants to get where they're going and isn't trying to imitate their favorite racing driver. The engine choice is economical and pairs well with attractive design and enough options to make every Trax feel like your own. Oh, and just a reminder, this all starts at $21,495.

Mazda is on a mission to make premium, well-priced vehicles, which is not an easy thing to do. With the CX-30, we think they have struck a good balance and it deserves to be in the top 4 for the 2024 Car of the Year award. This is not to say that the CX-30 is considered high of the range, but what it offers is refined style and a package that is worth the money you pay for it. That price will be higher than most other competitors, but if you're looking for a sophisticated parking lot presence without breaking the bank, there are still options and Mazda makes a strong case for theirs.
