This documentary travels to AI research hotspots in Europe, the United States and China and examines the groundbreaking developments taking place. The rapid growth of AI brings many opportunities, but also many dangers. AI can be used to create sound and video recordings, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. This will make the world of work more efficient and many professions will be redundant. Algorithms can decide whether to grant loans, which represents insurance risk and the quality of employees. But there is a huge problem: humans can no longer understand how algorithms make their decisions. And another major problem is AI's ability to provide widespread surveillance. The Chinese city of Rongcheng is already using an AI-backed “social credit system” to monitor and rate its citizens. Does AI present a danger to our individual freedoms or democracy? What decisions can we leave to algorithms – and which ones do we want? And what are the social implications of AI?
