Art workshop in Rome, summer 2023
This New Renaissance Atelier summer workshop is dedicated to drawing the human figure with daily figure drawing sessions with male and female models, and to the study of how the human body has been represented throughout the millennia by visiting amazing museums that display some of the most famous sculptures and paintings that depict the human figure. We will also visit the city, in search of its emblematic monuments, its unique restaurants and many little-known but charming, unique and unmissable places.
Each day will begin with a 4.5 hour figure drawing session, alternating male and female models daily.
After lunch we will set off on a museum tour choosing from the many museums that Rome has to offer: the Musei Vaticani with its endless collection of works from ancient times to the present day.
The Borghese Gallery, Palazzo Barberini and Doria Pamphilj are museums today but were once the residences of popes and Roman nobility, the Doria Pamphilj noble family still owns the palace. The Musei Capitolini exhibit emblematic bronzes such as the she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, or the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius.
At the relatively little-known National Roman Museum, you can also find two intact and astonishing bronzes: the Hellenistic Prince and the Quirinale Boxer, these two works alone are worth a visit to this museum which also contains a large number of priceless works and beautiful. .
